1. What is a squidlink?

A squidlink (square internet advertising link) is an image, 50 x 50 pixels, that provides a link to a webpage when clicked upon. It's both a powerful advertising tool and a fun way to discover some of the best places on the internet.

3. What do I need to do?

First you will need to register a free account. Once this has been done you will be able to go to the 'My Squidlinks' section. Click on the 'Add New' button. You will be asked for:

  • Image – image file that you wish to be displayed. Uploaded images must be less than 150KB and will automatically be compressed on our server to 50x50 pixels. We do not accept animated GIF files. The more eye catching you can make your image, the more likely it is that people will want to visit your site.
  • Url – link to your webpage, e.g. www.squidlinks.com. Links must be to web pages only and these pages must begin with http://
  • Float Text – text that is displayed when someone floats their mouse over your squidlink. If this is left blank the URL will automatically be used.
  • Tags – these are like keywords or labels. Tags are used to find groups of squidlinks which have something in common. Tags must be separated by commas, e.g. holiday, hotel, great britain. If you require 1 multi-word tag please place a trailing comma at the end so that it is parsed as a single tag.
  • Category – Link category that you wish your squidlink to be displayed in. Once your squidlink has been accepted by an administrator you will be unable to change this category yourself. We may re-categorize squidlinks as our community grows! Please contact us if you would like to move your squidlink to a different category.

Click the 'OK' button to add your newly created squidlink to your account.

IMPORTANT: Before acceptance of your squidlink, you must click the 'Submit' button to send it for review by an administrator. A maximum of 4 squidlinks can be added per account.

4. When will my squidlink be displayed and how long will it be displayed for?

Once your new squidlink has been submitted it will join the queue to be reviewed by an administrator. The administrator will attempt to review newly submitted (and edited) squidlinks within a 48 hour period, however during busy times this may take longer.

If your squidlink is rejected by the administrator, the reason will be displayed in the 'My Squidlinks' section. You will be given the opportunity to amend your squidlink and re-submit.

If accepted your new squidlink will join the end of the queue for your chosen category grid. The approximate minimum wait time will be displayed in the 'My Squidlinks' section next to your squidlink. Each squidlink moves 1 square every 6 hours, much like a conveyor belt. It takes 16 days to perform a single loop of a grid. Your squidlink will then automatically re-join the end of the queue where it will wait until it receives another free loop. We are currently working on the next version of the site which will optimize queue waiting times. Users will also be provided with a number of options!

5. Can I edit my squidlink?

Yes, however the edited content must be re-submitted for review by an administrator and if accepted the live squidlink will automatically be updated.

6. Why was my squidlink rejected?

There are a number of possible reasons. This reason will be displayed next to your squidlink in the 'My Squidlinks' section. Clicking the 'Edit' button will allow you to edit your squidlink so that you can re-submit it for review by an administrator.

  • The image associated with your squidlink was not deemed to be appropriate or the image quality was not good enough.
  • The image has already been used for another squidlink.
  • We reserve the right to refuse any squidlinks for any reason if we consider them inappropriate. Sites must be of a good standard with working links etc. We do not normally accept affiliate/referral links or personal blogs unless we consider them appropriate.
